I am thrilled to announce my painting, "The Soloist" has been juried into the Raleigh Fine Arts Society 2014 North Carolina Artists Exhibition. It is among the 70 selected from 475 entries by juror Dr. Eric Denker, Senior Lecturer at the National Gallery of Art and Independent Lecturer. Opening day is Sunday, March 2 at 2 PM. Dr. Denker will deliver a lecture on the selected works  and the Gallery will be open for the reception from 3-5PM. The exhibit will be on display at the Betty Ray McCain Gallery at the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts in Raleigh from March 2 - April 24, 2014.

Recent works

I have been using a new pallete which keeps me from falling into a rut - this one happens to include ivory black. Ivory black is wonderful for creating greens! I have a tendency to not make my darks dark enough and that can be critical to balancing color and an assortment of other issues related to making my painting sing and bounce around cheerfully without falling apart. I do love the deep blues, but the black if used right is terrific...

This is a painting I did for our daughter and son in law.

Paintings of late

I painted this at Airlie - I love the delicate greens in the leaves near the Butterfly house.

Some friends and I painted while we FROZE this past winter near the Wrightsville Beach Museum. It is so hot now outside it is hard to imagine that day. We stood near the hedge to protect ourselves from the bitter wind as best we could. YAY! We did it!!
